THE TRANSFORMATION OF FASHION RETAILING AND THE IMPLICATIONS FOR LICENSING OPPORTUNITIES

Wednesday, June 9

11:45am – 1:15pm

Fashion Licensing represents the fourth largest category of licensing business in the U.S. according to The Licensing Letter, 2009. However, traditional fashion retailing as we have known it in the past has changed dramatically. The retail business model has undergone a significant shift in the last two years, with the consumer increasingly in control of where, how, and when they purchase goods, with an emphasis on instantaneous access to compelling product. In this retail shift, the traditional retail model is giving way to a new business model exemplified by, but not limited to companies such as Urban Outfitters, Zappos.com, J Crew, Aeropostle, QVC, HSN and a new fashion model for JCP.

This seminar will explore how the changes in the fashion retail environment affect the opportunities for the placement of licensed product in various channels of distribution.
